How to Unlock iPhone 3G(S) on iOS 4.2.1 with Ultrasn0w and Redsn0w [Guide]

As promised in our previous post, here is the step by step guide to unlock iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G, 3GS using Reds0w and Ultrasn0w.

First we will update the baseband to iPad 06.15 and jailbreak the iPhone with Redsn0w. After the device is jailbroken, we can use Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock the device. Find the complete guide after the break.

Please read these instructions and warnings before you start the actual process:

1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for your idevice.

Step 2: Download iTunes 10.1 and install it on your PC.

Step 3: Back up all the contents on your phone before you start the actual jailbreak process.

Step 4: Save the SHSH blobs if you are still on iOS 4.1 or below version. !very important

Step 5: Update/restore your device to iOS 4.2.1 via iTunes.

Step 6: Download Redsnow 0.9.6 beta 4 and run it.

Step 7. When asked for iOS firmware, point the redsn0w to iOS 4.2.1 downloaded in first step.

When you receive a pop-up message, click on Yes to confirm the baseband change.

Step 8: Click on next and select “Install Cydia” and “Install iPad Baseband” options. Optionally you can also select any other option available for your idevice.

Step 9: At this step make sure that your phone is switched off and plugged into the computer. Follow the onscreen instructions to put the idevice into DFU mode.

Step 10: Let Redsn0w do its work. Once completed your phone will restart and you will find it jailbroken on iOS 4.2.1.

Now if you have iPhone 3GS New bootrom you will have to connect it with Resnow and select the “Just boot tethered right now” option to get the jailbreaked state on every boot.

Downloads:

* Download iOS 4.2.1 for your idevice
* Download iTunes 10.1 for Win and Mac OS X
* Download Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 5 for Win and Mac

Note: Windows 7 or Vista users often need to use XP or 98 compatibility modes when launching redsn0w (right-click).

How to Unlock with Ultrasn0w 2.1:

After your device is jailbroken using the above mentioned procedure, open the Cydia App and search for Ultrasn0w. Install it and reboot your device. Your device is now unlocked.

How to Bypass Errors Such As 14, 3194 While Restoring iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch

Today it’s fourth iPhone which I updated to iOS 4.2.1, jailbreaked and unlocked with Ultrasn0w. Please don’t assume that I do all this jailbreaking and unlocking stuff for business. In fact, thinking me an iPhone Guru, every day one or two friends of mine came here at my place to get their iPhones unlocked on iOS 4.2.1.
Initially I experienced many problems, but the one which was very irritating to me was:

  • iTunes unbearable errors like 14, 3194, 1600 etc
After using different types of tips, tricks and softwares I have got sort of mastery to bypass and resolve these error and I thought that I should share my experience with the readers of this blog.
How to Bypass Errors 14, 3194, 1600 etc?
These are very common errors which you may face during RESTORE process. The one and only solution to bypass such errors is, at least which worked for me, to use a pwned DFU mode. There are three softwares available for this purpose:
How to Bypass Errors Such As 14, 3194 While Restoring iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch redsn0w
Being a windows users I don’t know much about PwnageTool and how well it performs to bypass these errors but in the remaining two softwares iREB is my favourite now.
I tried Redsnow many times but it didn’t work for me and whenever I used iREB, I got success. Here is how to use iREB to get the PWNED DFU mode:
How to Bypass Errors Such As 14, 3194 While Restoring iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch ireb
  • Download iREB for windows here. Though it supports up to iOS 4.1 but it also works on latest iOS 4.2.1 too, at least for me.
  • Close iTunes.
  • ‘Connect your iPhone with PC after switching it off.
  • Launch iREB.
  • Select your device on the screen of iREB UI and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • If you get DFU mode, the screen of your idevice must be blank (black).
  • Now use iTunes to restore iOS 4.2.1 on your iPhone without any error.
Sometimes your idevice may stick into the recovery mode. Here is the solution to get rid of this problem.
  • Connect your iPhone stuck in Recovery Mode or at Apple Logo with PC.
  • Lauch iREB.
  • Select the device on the screen of iREB. ( Its important before you follow next step.)
  • Now keep pressed both Home and Power buttons to turn the device off.
  • As the device turns off (black screen), release Home button, but never release Power button.
  • As soon as Apple logo re-appears, press the Home button again.
  • The screen will go black again after 5-6 seconds. But don’t release any button (Home + Power) till next 5 seconds.
  • After 5 seconds, release the Power button but keep pressed Home button until iREB recognises the DFU mode.
  • iREB will put the device into limera1ned DFU mode.
If you don’t get the DFU mode, retry again and again. After few attempts you will succeed. Now launch iTunes and restore the stock or custom iOS 4.2.1 on your iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch, or Apple TV to jailbreak or unlock it.
If you still get any error during the restore process, restart your PC and try different USB port. If you are using the front-side, use the rear one and if on left side, use the one at right side, according to your PC.
After using all the tricks mentioned above, I am still getting errors.
  Use another PC then.

There Are Plenty Of Risks Of Unlocking Your IPhone

You might have heard that there is an release for the iPhone. Now not handiest are you able to release iPhone firmware 1.0.2, now firmware 1.1.2 could also be cracked and so is firmware 1.1.3. There are many how you can unencumber your iPhone. In case your learn the entire hype, then you could assume that this is not a big deal and someone can do it. You could have the number of buying an release from iphonesimfree.com or you can search YouTube for the up to date video on methods to liberate your iPhone. There’s risk related to this, especially if you happen to get started messing round with the bootload program. The dangers of unlocking your iPhone may in reality outweigh the benefits
Prior to we pass any more, we want to be sure that everyone knows what we’re talking about. An unlocked iPhone is an iPhone that has its firmware hacked into. The commonest reason for that is so that the consumer can bypass the Apple – AT&T unique settlement that AT&T is the sole supplier of mobile phone carrier for the iPhone. Whilst you unencumber your iPhone, you’re allowing the iPhone to be used on any mobile phone network using standard GSM technology. Now that we have got the phrases cleared up, we want to see if it is in point of fact worth risking the risks of unlocking your iPhone.
There are risks, make no mistake approximately it. A few of the ones dangers are recoverable, a few are not. If you’re making a significant mistake, you’ll be able to “brick” your iPhone. In a way, this is precisely what happens, your iPhone locks up, can’t be recovered from, and is now not anything greater than an expensive brick. With a purpose to prevent this from happening, you want to be certain that the directions you might be following are accurate. Even iphonesimfree.com won’t ensure that their instrument won’t harm your iPhone. All they state is that it’s going to work. They don’t offer a refund guarantees.
Why do you wish to have to unlock your iPhone? If you are proud of AT&T as a mobile phone carrier provider and you experience their visible email (an AT&T exclusive) then there’s no explanation why to liberate your iPhone. Simply stay the use of it as is. You’ll keep upgrading to the brand new firmware releases without being worried about killing your iPhone. If however, you could possibly moderately use T-Cell as a mobile phone provider or if you’re taking a look to get greater track and video content then you can unencumber the iPhone.
This is the risk; at the moment, there are hacks to unlock the iPhone via firmware versions 1.1.4. Then again, handiest iphonesimfree.com states that their product is guaranteed to paintings with each and every firmware update from Apple. They declare that any liberate from them is excellent for each firmware update. Others claim to be able to have unlocking directions without spending a dime if you want to unencumber your telephone without having to downgrade to firmware model 1.0.2. The issue is in the event you unencumber your iPhone this manner and then you upgrade to the next model and it does not work, your iPhone will re-lock. If this happens then you might not have the ability to use your iPhone even if you go back to the usage of the SIM card that in the beginning got here with your iPhone. Then you will have to go and figure out a way to get it to work. Apple may not be of any lend a hand to you in case your iPhone bricks and even refuses to hook up with a cell phone carrier because you made a decision you sought after to hack the firmware.
What about buying an unlocked iPhone? Right here again the hazards of unlocking your iPhone nonetheless hang precise, only this time you don’t have any thought of the way the phone was once unlocked. If you buy an liberate from iphonesimfree.com and feature issues you can touch them and they are going to assist you. Vendors promoting unlocked iPhones is probably not so helpful.
The hazards of unlocking your iPhone might not be it sounds as if clear. Alternatively, there is a danger of ruining your iPhone. That makes it very expensive experiment. Are you positive you need or want your iPhone unlocked? In case you do remember that the hazards of unlocking your iPhone prior to you do one thing that cannot be undone

How to Find and Save Apple TV 2G ECID

ECID or Exclusive Chip ID, is an unique identifier to every iDevice unit. Apple added ECID with iPhone 3GS and onward, the ECID verify and sent signatures to Apple’s servers for re-signing to get a valid SHSH. Doing this Apple has been disallowing downgrades (even via DFU Mode) on newer devices when a new firmware version is released.

ECID security is introduced to prevent us downgrading the firmware of our iDevice. When iTunes starts the process of restoring the firmware, the server asks Apple to create a sort of certificate to your device. Because the process takes place online, Apple may change the response from the server and prevent the restore to previous version. So all users who wish to preserve their jailbreak should made a backup of that file, so as to later use regardless of what Apple will invent to prevent the jailbreak.

So below are two guides to identify your Apple TV 2G ECID on Windows OS and Mac OS, after gabbing your ECID you may proceed to next procedure, where you have to save your 64KB SHSH Gold on file with Firmware Umbrella.

Serious Bug Found in iOS 4.1, Update Seems Imminent

You thought you locked your iPhone with a password protection and you are safe? Not really … TUAW.com published a serious iPhone bug in the lock code of iOS 4.1, and seems already settled in the new beta version 4.2 of iOS.

iphone_bug

The ruling is that a person could access the phone application on the iPhone, with access to contacts, bookmarks, voice dialing and voice, and follow-up, editing a contact, access our photo library. You can not go further and made the phone remains locked and does not respond or the start button or the button sleep. The only way to react is to leave the button sleep for more than 5 seconds, and when we see the option off, then again press for that this time it works and the phone returns to normal. Following is the video of proof.

It is certainly a very grave security breach, so you are notified of the problem.

IPhone Hacks – Is IPhone Hacking Legal? What’s The Point?

The term “hacking” probably sends a chill down your spine every time you hear it, right? Dreaded computer hackers have plagued society into thinking that hacking is a bad thing because they do it for the wrong reasons. They enter our computers, steal our information, and then leave without a trace. In reality, hacking is just a word that means that someone can break into a system. That, in and of itself, is harmless. It’s what people do during the hack that causes problems. Let’s look into the art of iPhone hacks and see if they’re legal and even worth the time to do.

As mentioned before, hacking alone is not illegal. Distribution of what you find during the hack normally is. This is actually rather ironic because it implies that unlocking an iPhone is fine, but releasing software to do that is totally against the law. What gives, right? Well, the laws aren’t terribly enforced nowadays, and there are a lot of companies that get away with selling hacks and hacking programs without getting into trouble. Overall, you can legally try out a variety of iPhone hacks that may make your phone more efficient or better to use. You just have to be careful where you get them from and who you give them to after that.

What’s the point, you ask? Well, iPhone hacks basically let you have free reign on your phone. You can make it talk, walk, sit, stay – whatever you want. An iPhone is amazing when it works under stock conditions, but when you get some good hacks in it, that thing will do exactly what you want. Think of an iPhone hack like you would a cheat for a video game. It’s just a useful tool that will help you get access to the features that are already available on the device. If you use it correctly, you won’t have to worry about getting into any trouble.

One of the most popular hacks that most people are familiar with is unlocking or jailbreaking. Unlocking the iPhone simply means that you are freeing yourself from being restrained to using AT&T as a carrier. This is especially awesome if you’re going overseas and need to take your phone with you.

Overall, hacking doesn’t do much more than give you a key to stuff that you already have. It’s not a bad thing to do at all if you do it in the right way. If you get a hack online that seems too good to be true, avoid it. Otherwise, feel free to experiment a little bit. You bought the iPhone to have fun and flexibility, right? Some good iPhone hacks may allow you to do just that. Have fun, be safe, and hack well.

If you are looking for iPhone tips and tricks ten go to hack the iPhone today.

ProOnGo Expense with receipt reader for iPhone & iPad – app review

ProOnGo Expense with receipt reader is a universal app for iPhone and iPad that will easily track your expenses for you. It uses image capture to import information from receipts or you can manually enter details. The app currently supports regular, time, and mileage expenses. You have several options when it comes time to export your receipts and reports – including Excel, CSV, Quickbooks, and more.
iTunes Link

The app will come with 10 receipt reads to start. From there you can purchase credits on your account. You can purchase 30 receipt reads for 2.99/month or 50 receipt reads for 4.99/month. The prices are reasonable but the pricing model to me is a little tedious. I’d like to eventually see ProOnGo implement a monthly and yearly model where you pay a set fee and get unlimited reads. This is the only thing I didn’t particularly care for as I think some people may prefer an unlimited option. (Update: As of writing this, ProOnGo was not advertising an unlimited plan, but there is now one being rolled out to businesses, so if you’re looking for that, it IS an option.)
When it comes to the main features of the app, it couldn’t be any simpler. Receipts can be entered manually or via image capture. If users prefer not to buy credits, they can always choose to manually enter expenses for free instead of using imager capture. As an accountant, I think the image capture is worth the money as you’ll always have proof of your expenses if you ever need it.
One feature I really like is credit card sync. You can enter and store credit card info (I prefer manually entering credit card info opposed to storing my info when I need to sync for extra security) and the app will bring down your purchases from that account. The app currently only supports sync with American Express. I’d really like to see support for other cards as well. Most large businesses may use AmEx but smaller businesses may not. I think this app could be invaluable for smaller businesses as it’s an extremely easy and non-expensive way to manage and track expenses. I know I use one of my personal cards right now for business expenses for our repair service and development company, but that card isn’t an AmEx.
Expense reports couldn’t be easier to compile either. The app simply does it for you and emails you the report. Just choose the format you prefer and click send. It supports almost every major report format. I’d like to see native PeachTree support added as several Sage users may prefer native file types as they are more import friendly. PeachTree will import some of the file types options. It may just need a bit of cleaning up.
You can also view graphs and charts on the go of your expense trends, which is a nice bonus. It’s nice to have a quick snapshot of how your expenses have fluctuated over a several month time period.
Overall, ProOnGo Expense is an extremely intuitive app and a great tool for users who don’t want to spend a ton to manage their expenses. If you’ve used this app or something similar, let us know your thoughts in the comments! Any features you’d like to see added?

Pros

  • Several export formats supported (Excel, QB Pro, CSV, XML, & PayServ)
  • Graphs show instant snapshots of report trends
  • Reasonable prices for the amount of functionality offered

Cons

  • Pricing model can be a bit tedious and confusing
  • Credit card sync only supports AmEx
  • No landscape mode on iPad version
  • Syncing from device to device is manual, sometimes confusing

No iPods, iPhones, or iPads cross the Bill Gates threshold

Melinda Gates has once again re-affirmed that no Apple product, no iPod, iPhone, or iPad, is welcome in her and husband Bill Gates’ house. Last time she said she wouldn’t mind an iPhone, of course, but this time she stuck to sterner stuff:
Do you own an iPod, which is made by Apple?
No, I have a Zune.
What if one of your children says, “Mom, I have to have an iPod?”
I have gotten that argument — “You may have a Zune.”
Do you have an iPad?
Of course not.
Is it true that Bill works on an Apple laptop?
False. Nothing crosses the threshold of our doorstep.
Isn’t there room in this world for both Apple and Microsoft?
Microsoft certainly makes products for the Macintosh. Go talk to Bill.
And fair enough. How many Microsoft products do you think make it into Steve Jobs’ house?

Limesn0w iOS 4.1 Unlock: GeoHot Release for iPhone 4, 3GS?

iPhone users have only just come to terms with the release of jailbreaking tool Limera1n for iOS 4.1 devices, but now it has been revealed that an unlock method by the same creator may also be available in the future.
As reported from RedmondPie, there apparently has been a circulation of fake images and videos all suggesting that Geohot, creator of Limera1n is working on ‘Limesn0w’, and that it will unlock basebands 05.14.02 and 2.10.04 basebands on iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
However, the details have been confirmed to be fake by Geohot himself, but at the same time, also confirms that there is an official geohot domain for Limesn0w.com.
Here is the solitary message which greets users on the Limesn0w website:
”This will never be real. Media, understand it. ~geohot”
As you can see over at RedmondPie, the website sign-up details all point towards George Hotz, so those hoping for an unlock on iOS 4.1 after jailbreaking with Limera1n may not have to wait too far.
Are you waiting for an unlock from Geohot?

Apple TV Jailbroken With Greenpois0n

P0sixninja just confirmed Greenpois0n jailbreak successfully ported in to Apple TV 2G. Jailbreaking Apple TV opens the possibility of running unapproved apps and programs on the new Apple TV. The exploit used in Greenpois0n cannot be patched with software or firmware update and requires new bootrom to get patched. So chances are higher that Apple will update hardware in upcoming lot of Apple TV.
greenpoisonappletviPhone Dev team is also set to release pwnage tool with support of Apple TV and iPad. So be ready with your Micro USB cable, because you need to jailbreak with DFU mode. Here is our previous guide to put your Apple TV in DFU mode.

Does iPad 4.2 mute switch make more sense for iPad 2 with FaceTime?

Does iPad 4.2 mute switch make more sense for iPad 2 with FaceTime?
The godfather of iOS development, Craig Hockenberry wondered out loud on Twitter about just why Apple would change the iPad’s hardware orientation lock to a mute switch in iOS 4.2, and if it could be related to future, FaceTime-equipped iPad 2 hardware:
When (not if) an iPad has FaceTime, will silencing the alerts be more important than orientation? Depends on the person and how they use it…
If iPad 2 is shown off in January and ships in April, it will certainly still be running iOS 4.x. (iOS 5 won’t ship until June 2011 for iPhone, and who knows when for iPad, November 2011?) So when it makes FaceTime calls, does an iPhone-like mute switch make more sense?

UPDATED: iOS 4.1 security flaw allows calls to be made on passcode locked iPhone

It looks as if there’s yet another Phone.app security hole, this time in iOS 4.1 that allows someone to get around a passcode locked iPhone, gain access to the owner’s contact list, make calls and send emails to anyone in said contact list. From MacStories:

“To reproduce the bug, make sure to have a passcode lock turned on and lock your device. In the lockscreen, tap on Emergency Call in the lower left corner. Now type a non-existent emergency number, I tried #946494. Start the call, and as soon as the red button appear hit the sleep button. You’ll be brought to the contact list.”

The issue will most-likely get patched by Apple in the 4.2 update coming later this month, but it’s not the first time the emergency call screen has been exploited. Both iOS 2.1 and iOS 2.0.2 suffered from passcode lock bugs. Hopefully Apple pays extra attention and really secures Phone.app this time.

We were able to recreate the issue in the video above. Any readers out there seeing the same results? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below!

UPDATE: This bug appears to already be fixed in iOS 4.2 beta, which is due to be released in November.

Reckless Racing HD for iPad – app review

If your looking for a fun, simple racer with awesome graphics, then Reckless Racing HD might be for you. Playing this game reminds of RC Pro Am Racing on the original Nintendo, or NES. The premise is simple; beat other racers to win the championship.
The game is played with an overhead isometric view. There are several different control options, but I enjoy the default which is gas and break on the far right and left and right turn arrow on the left, the control is spot on too.

Starting off with the game you get a brief tutorial which also allows you to try out the different controls in real-time. Just tap the one you want to try while playing and you are good to go. Next, you can complete in a championship and more. There are three different classes to choose from; bronze, silver and gold. I personally had no challenge at all on bronze, so I bumped it up right to gold and had a blast. As you race there are obstacles to avoid, but the biggest challenge is just staying on the road! The game has you racing laps on dirt, gravel and paved roads and each feels succinctly different.
There are a few obstacles to watch out for while you race like cans, barrels and boxes. But what is great is that if you are a slick enough driver, you can discover nice shortcuts to help you through the level. The 8 tracks had me wanting a little more levels, though if you place first in the track you unlock the reverse course. I did find the three game modes (race, hot lap and delivery) to be fun as well.
The bonus with this game is with the multiplayer. You get 4 player racing online with Reckless Racing and it adds a whole other level racing with real people. You have leader boards and can save ghosts too. The only real issue I had with the multiplayer aspect is that you don’t know if people are in the middle of a race till you enter their game. If they are racing, you have to wait till the race is over to join. I wish there was a way to see what games were already racing so you could find a game that much easier, or a quick match might work too.
Overall Reckless Racing HD is a blast to play, but is just shy of total greatness due to a few nicks here and there. However, I am sure EA will have new levels and cars with downloadable content soon.
[$4.99- iTunes Link]
TiPb iPad 3.5-star rated

Pros

  • Fun, fun game
  • A variety of levels
  • Online multiplayer

Cons

  • Additional levels would be nice, the variety is good, but I feel I race the same levels over and over
  • A few quirks with multiplayer

Internet Marketing Great iPhone / iPad Apps for Filmmakers & Video Producer

Great iPhone / iPad Apps for Filmmakers & Video Producer

The recent launch of Apple's revolutionary iPad, combined with the continued evolution of the iPhone, has prompted the development of literally thousands of brand new “apps”. Many of these of new applications are aimed directly at the film and video production industries. Producers, for example, have been seen using iPads fairly frequently on shoots for the usual production tasks such as storyboarding and scheduling.
With huge sales figures and the next generation of iPads being rumoured for release in first quarter of 2011, the touch screen device is clearly here to stay and it's surely only a matter of time before we see premium applications like Final Cut Pro being used on the iPad too.
As designers think up new, creative ways of using the iPad and iPhone, we're seeing some really ingenius applications. Here are 6 great iPhone / iPad Apps for filmmakers and video producers;
(1) iSlate
iSlate is a really affordable clapperboard. Perfect for those occasions when clapperboard dissapears mysteriously from the kit bag or the runner forgets to pack one. So having iSlate as a backup is fantastic, and for ?1.79 a real bargain.
Alternatively, if you own an iPad you'll want to get Movie Slate, which is described as the “Rolls-Royce of iPad/iPhone clapboards”. It has all the features you could imagine, and at ?1199 is perfectly justified when you see just what it can do.
(2) Cinemek
This app, previously known as Hancock, is a storyboard composer, which works much better than you'd expect. By using your own pictures (and photos taken with the iPhone), you can add in items from their vast library of related imagery. It does pretty much everything a storyboard artist program should do, with the minimum of fuss.
(3) Pro Prompter
This software by Bodelin (who make full sized teleprompters), allows you to control a professional teleprompter with your iPhone or iPad. You really need to see it in action to get how it works but it's pretty clever stuff.
(4) ITC Calc
When you're dealing on a daily basis with frames, timecodes, durations, you need a quick way to do your calculations. The beauty of ITC Calc is that you can do it anywhere you need to, whether on set or sat in-front of your edit machine, and with a built-in history you can go back and look how you did it the last time you needed to!
(5) iKeystoGo

Myreplicaphone Sells Replica Iphone

Business
Before getting into the details of the Instinct, a few words about the new iPhone, its main competition.. Soon after Apple announced the firstiPhone Replica a year ago, factories in Asia, at the behest of U.S. phone carriers, were asked to respond to the sleek, touch-screen device. Some already have reached America; more are coming. I don't do full reviews of products until I have tested them extensively, but my first impressions of the 3G Iphone Replica are largely positive. The parade of iPhone lookalikes continues The iPhone, along with some competitors like the BlackBerry, are really hand-held computers that happen to make voice calls. And they're getting more powerful and innovative. So far, competitors like the Instinct, while trying to look like Iphone Replica mobile phones, are still mainly voice devices with so-so computing features tacked on. It also has GPS for tracking your location, and fully supports over-the-air synchronization of email, contacts and calendars -- through Microsoft Exchange in corporations or via a similar new consumer service from Apple called Mobile Me. And you'll be able to download directly to the phone a whole universe of third-party programs, from productivity software to games. Also, the timing of the Instinct is unfortunate. It was designed to go up against the first Iphone 4GS even has a Web site (nowisgood.com) comparing the two devices. But the Instinct will go on sale only three weeks before Apple and AT&T start selling the new 3G iPhone, the second-generation model announced earlier this week. The price of the new Iphone Replica’s base model, which comes with 8 gigabytes of memory, a 50% price cut from the comparable first-generation model. Yet, it now works on AT&T's fastest data network, promising anywhere from two to five times the speed of its predecessor. This second Iphone Replica model corrects some of the first model's main weaknesses, wiping out some advantages Sprint hoped the Instinct would have. Physically, the Instinct looks a lot like the Iphone Replica -- a dark slab without a physical keyboard or many buttons dominated by a large screen. It's a bit longer and thicker than the iPhone, but a tad narrower and lighter. Its screen is smaller than the iPhone's and has lower resolution. Like the 3G Iphone Replica the Instinct runs on a fast cellular network that promises speeds similar to what people get with slow home DSL service. In my tests, it seemed to deliver this promised speed. It also has GPS and navigation. And there are many kinds of Iphone Cases which is also available online. But, unlike the Iphone Replica the Instinct lacks Wi-Fi wireless networking, which can often be faster than the cell phone networks or available where there is no speedy cell phone coverage. Really suitable for most of people, go to catch this chance! Joanne-myluxphone Article from: www.myluxphone.com

Use Your iPad as a Second Display and Wacom Tablet

How would you like to use your iPad as a second (or third) display for your Mac? Now, how would you like to get a glimpse into what it would be like to experience OS X apps on a touchscreen? Finally, what would you say to using your iPad to draw in Photoshop and Illustrator just like a Wacom Cintiq?
If you answered “heck yes!” to any of these questions, read on to see how to make this dream a reality using only a single app!

The Goals

I recently purchased my first iPad. After a few weeks with it I’m absolutely addicted to the thing. However, as the initial “wow factor” begins to wear off I’m starting to transition the device from an amazing toy to something that can actually improve my workflow.
I set out on this task with two goals in mind. The first is screen space. These days I work primarily on a 13-inch MacBook screen after spending well over half a decade on a 20-inch cinema display. I have to admit, the size kills me.
At any given time I’m running a dozen different apps including email, a browser or two, a few Adobe apps, an ever-present Twitter app (Tweetie), occasionally Skype and/or iChat, a text editor and a few Fluid instances. Needless to say, on such a small screen, this leads to major clutter.
The palettes alone in Illustrator and Photoshop can easily eat up half my screen. Ideally, I’d just run out and buy a cinema display but since that’s not realistic for me at the moment, I was hoping my shiny new iPad could serve as a little extra screen space where I can offload some clutter.
The second function that I was hoping to achieve was to combine my iPad and Pogo stylus with Illustrator and Photoshop for an amazing Wacom-like drawing experience.

Searching For a Solution

Since I was much more excited about the second of these goals, I first set off in search of an app that mimics the functionality of a Wacom tablet (I already knew that there were several apps for using your iPad as a second display). Surely, I thought, since the iPad’s interactive multi-touch display would make for an awesome way to draw with vectors in Illustrator, there must be a bunch of apps aimed right at this market. I was wrong.
After searching the app store high and low and finally resorting to Google, all I found was other designers in search of the same functionality: no solution in site. Using Adobe Ideas for iPad, you can create a sketch, export it as a PDF and then import that as vector artwork into Illustrator, but this is a really round-about workflow that doesn’t give me access to the powerful drawing tools I’m used to in Illustrator or the robust brush system in Photoshop.
It amazes me that no one is directly targeting this market. When a Wacom Cintiq runs upwards of $1,000, you know designers would gladly fork out $10-20 to find a similar (though admittedly less effective) experience on a device that they already have lying around.

Unfortunately, after consulting Twitter, the app store, Google and everywhere else I could think of, I was forced to give up my Wacom emulating app search and move on to getting myself some extra screen space.

Eureka!

One of the first apps that I found for turning my iPad into an additional display for my MacBook was Air Display. At around ten bucks, it seemed like it did everything I wanted, possessed a no-brainer setup process and had great reviews.

Air Display
One killer feature for me was that while using Air Display as a second display, you can take advantage of the iPad’s touchscreen and actually interact with your Mac applications almost as if they were iOS apps!
As I was excitedly thinking about what OS X applications I wanted to interact with directly, I thought back to my pervious search. Had I accidentally found the answer for both of my goals in a single app? As it turns out, yes I had.

Air Display

As I mentioned before, setting up Air Display is simple. All you do is install the app on your iPad and download the accompanying menu bar app for your Mac (Windows version available as well). As long as both devices are on the same network, they effortlessly connect without a single hitch.

Once you’ve got your connection up, Air Display works exactly like any second display: just drag your OS X windows off the side of your screen and they appear on your iPad.

OS X Apps on Your iPad!
As I mentioned before, in addition to using your mouse, you can simply reach out and touch anything that you want. Clicking and dragging works like a charm, which means when you fire up Illustrator, drawing works exactly like I always wanted it to!

Illustrator on an iPad: a beautiful thing
There you have it, for a measly $10, you can turn your iPad into the ultimate OS X companion that works as a second monitor, allows you to interact with OS X apps via touch, and even use your favorite art apps like Photoshop and Illustrator in a very similar way to how you would use a fancy touch-screen Wacom tablet.

Closing Thoughts

Unfortunately, the solution isn’t perfect. When you make a big change such as moving a window, there is a bit of pixelation due to redraw time (very similar to using the OS X screen sharing feature).
The biggest downside for those looking to mimic a Wacom though is the lack of pressure sensitivity. There may be a way to set it up, but I’m simply not seeing it. A light touch with your stylus/finger and a heavy touch with the same are both interpreted as the same mouse click, no matter how much of your finger is used to touch the screen.
However, for the time being, I can gladly live with these limitations. I’m using OS X in a new and amazing way and rediscovering my love for Adobe’s drawing tools. This is by far the best $10 I’ve spent in a long time.
